    About Pearson Edexcel GCSE Gujarati

    The Pearson Edexcel GCSE Gujarati course is designed to develop your ability to communicate effectively in Gujarati across all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The specification is structured to build on your existing knowledge, whether you are a heritage speaker or have learned Gujarati as a second language, and it emphasises practical communication in real-life contexts.

    The course is organised into five broad themes: Identity and Culture; Local Area, Holiday and Travel; School; Future Aspirations, Study and Work; and International and Global Dimensions. Each theme is further broken down into sub-topics that cover vocabulary, grammar, and cultural knowledge. The specification also includes a strong focus on grammar and sentence structures, ensuring you can express yourself accurately and creatively. Assessment is linear, with all exams taken at the end of the course, and there is no coursework component.

    Assessment Structure

    Pearson Edexcel GCSE Gujarati is assessed through four externally examined papers, all taken at the end of the course. Paper 1 (Listening) is worth 25% of the total GCSE and lasts approximately 35 minutes (Foundation) or 45 minutes (Higher). Paper 2 (Speaking) is worth 25% and consists of a role play, a picture-based task, and a conversation, lasting 7-9 minutes (Foundation) or 10-12 minutes (Higher). Paper 3 (Reading) is worth 25% and lasts 45 minutes (Foundation) or 1 hour (Higher). Paper 4 (Writing) is worth 25% and lasts 1 hour (Foundation) or 1 hour 15 minutes (Higher). All papers are available at Foundation and Higher tiers, and the total marks for each paper vary by tier, but each contributes equally to the final grade.
