Assessment Structure

Paper 1: Listening (50 marks) tests understanding of spoken Polish through multiple-choice and short-answer questions; it lasts 45 minutes (including 5 minutes' reading time) and is worth 25% of the overall grade. Paper 2: Speaking (60 marks) is a 10–12 minute internally conducted but externally assessed oral exam, consisting of a role-play, a photo card discussion, and a general conversation, also contributing 25%. Paper 3: Reading (60 marks) evaluates comprehension of written Polish via questions in English and Polish, with a short translation from Polish into English; the exam lasts 1 hour and accounts for 25%. Paper 4: Writing (60 marks) requires students to produce extended written responses in Polish, including a translation from English into Polish, over 1 hour 20 minutes; this paper completes the 25% weighting per skill. The total qualification mark is 230, and grades are awarded on a 9–1 scale. Foundation and Higher tier variants exist for all papers, with tasks and rubrics appropriately targeted.
