The CCEA GCSE English Language qualification is assessed through two external written examinations and a Spoken Language endorsement. 'Paper 1: The Study of Language and Literature' is a 2-hour exam worth 60% of the total marks (120 marks), assessing reading and writing skills. 'Paper 2: The Study of Spoken Language' is a 1-hour exam worth 40% of the total marks (80 marks), focusing on listening and speaking skills. Additionally, there is an internally assessed Spoken Language endorsement, reported separately as 'Pass', 'Merit', or 'Distinction', which does not contribute to the overall GCSE grade.
