About this course
About Pearson Edexcel igcse English Literature
This Pearson Edexcel IGCSE English Literature course invites you to explore a rich variety of prose, poetry, and drama from different periods and cultures. You will develop critical reading skills, learn to analyse language, form, and structure, and build the ability to write coherent, insightful responses to literary texts.
The specification is designed to encourage a personal, engaged response to literature, while also testing your understanding of context and literary tradition. You will study a range of set texts, including a Shakespeare play, a modern drama, a selection of poetry, and a novel, and you will be assessed on your ability to compare texts and explore themes, characters, and settings in depth.
Assessment Structure
This qualification is assessed through two written exam papers, each worth 50% of the total IGCSE. Paper 1 focuses on Poetry and Modern Prose, and Paper 2 covers Modern Drama and Literary Heritage Texts. Both papers are 1 hour 30 minutes long and are worth 60 marks each. There is no coursework or controlled assessment component; all assessment is external and takes place at the end of the course. Questions require you to write analytical essays, often with a choice of tasks, and you will be expected to refer closely to the texts you have studied.
