Prepare for nursing and clinical roles with anatomy, patient care, and medical ethics.
Nursing & Healthcare qualifications provide the clinical foundation for careers across NHS trusts, private hospitals, GP practices, and community health services. From healthcare assistant roles to pre-registration nursing degrees, these qualifications form the clinical career ladder.
Learners study anatomy and physiology, infection control, clinical observations, medication administration, and evidence-based practice. Practical competencies are assessed through supervised clinical placements.
The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan aims to recruit an additional 300,000+ staff by 2036, making healthcare one of the most secure career paths available.

Absolutely. Many successful nursing students have backgrounds in humanities, psychology, or vocational qualifications. Universities value soft skills like empathy and communication. If you lack science A-levels, consider an Access to HE diploma in Health Professions, which is specifically designed for mature learners and widely accepted. You'll build the necessary bioscience knowledge during your degree.
Nursing degrees are deeply practical, with the Nursing and Midwifery Council requiring at least 2,300 hours of clinical placements. These are spread across settings such as hospitals, GP surgeries, community clinics, and specialist units, often starting from your first year. You'll work under supervision, gradually taking on more responsibility, preparing you for independent practice upon registration.
From 2020, undergraduate nursing students have access to the NHS Learning Support Fund, which currently provides at least £5,000 per year that does not need to be repaid. Extra payments may be available for childcare, travel, and dual accommodation during placements. Additionally, students can apply for maintenance loans from Student Finance, and many NHS trusts offer further incentives like bursaries or 'golden hello' payments for hard-to-fill specialisms.
